Biodiversity Action Plans

Our Member Boards

Our member Boards have prepared individual Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs) in accordance with the commitment set out in the Defra Internal Drainage Board Review (2007), which requires internal drainage boards (IDBs) to produce their own BAPs.

These plans demonstrate the Boards commitment to conserving and enhancing biodiversity through their operations, and to supporting priority UK species and habitats. Together they form part of our wider approach to sustainable water and land management, aligned with relevant legislation and policy including (but not limited to):

  • Environment Act 2021
  • Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006
  • 25 Year Environment Plan
  • Water Framework Directive

Importantly, the BAP reflects the Board’s aspiration to maximise the support it provides to biodiversity, particularly priority UK species and habitats, through its day-to-day activities. It sets out clear objectives, actions, and targets to guide this work.

The Boards have adopted these BAPs as formal policy documents and are committed to implementing, monitoring, and periodically reviewing them to ensure they deliver positive outcomes for biodiversity and the wider environment.
