Kessingland Steps

The East Suffolk Water Management Board’s Coastal Team designed and installed new prefabricated access steps to the beach at Kessingland. As project coordinator, the team oversaw all stages of delivery, ensuring the works aligned with ongoing coastal safety objectives and provided a safer, more reliable route for the public to access the shoreline. Public safety considerations were integral throughout the project, including the management of site risks, coordination of construction activities and communication with stakeholders.

Delivered on behalf of East Suffolk Council, the project contributes to wider efforts to improve the usability and safety of coastal assets in East Suffolk. The steps were installed using a crawler crane, enabling precise and efficient placement while minimising disruption to the surrounding environment. The team also undertook liaison with local residents, businesses and beach users to ensure that the works were carried out with due consideration for community needs and coastal access during construction.
