Environment Team working in a watercourse to find invasive species in December 2021

Our environment team provides a comprehensive range of ecological services to support our operations. Through ecological surveys and assessments, the team evaluates habitats, identifies species, and assesses environmental risks before any work begins. This careful scoping informs maintenance and project design, ensures alignment with ecological best practice and safeguards biodiversity.

Central to our work is ensuring compliance with environmental legislation. From obtaining approvals with statutory bodies to producing Habitat Regulations Assessments, the team enables board work to proceed legally and sustainably, so that we can maintain operational continuity, while upholding the member boards commitment to responsible watercourse management.

Alongside compliance, the team leads on habitat and watercourse management, species protection, and biodiversity enhancement. They oversee restoration schemes, act as Ecological Clerks of Works, and embed ecological considerations into all stages of project delivery. Through stakeholder engagement, toolbox talks, and collaboration with agencies and communities, the team promotes best practice, supports shared responsibility for ecosystems, and ensures that environmental outcomes remain central to the member boards activities.
