Exeter Drain Improvement Project
Work is continuing across the Exeter Drain Improvement Project, with activity now progressing across all three main areas of the scheme.
At Maple Grove and Cley Hall Drive, more than half of the existing Culvert 1 has now been replaced, with new manhole chambers also being installed as work progresses along the 300-metre section.
Following a review of the construction method, work has now restarted at Mulberry Way.
New pipework and chambers are currently being installed at Culvert 3, with this work expected to continue through October. Once complete, the team will move south to Culvert 4 to install a further section of pipeline and chamber.
The new headwalls will then be constructed at the ends of the new pipework. This work is expected to continue into December and will involve temporary sheet piles to provide a safe and stable working area.
Preparatory work has also started on the next phase of the project along Pecks Drove West.
With the road closure now in place, vegetation clearance and construction of a temporary access platform are underway. The platform will allow specialist equipment to access the channel and install the permanent sheet piles that will form the structure of the upgraded channel.
Work will continue across the different areas of the project over the coming months, with construction currently expected to run through to March 2027.
