Upper Thurne Integrated Drainage Improvement Project, Potter Heigham Pumping Station Replacement, Martham Pumping Station Replacement, Brograve Pumping Station Replacement, Repps Pumping Station Replacement

As October draws to a close, work continues across the Broads Internal Drainage Board’s Upper Thurne Integrated Drainage Improvement Project, with progress being made at Brograve, Martham and Potter Heigham pumping stations as part of the programme to upgrade vital flood risk management infrastructure in the Norfolk Broads.
At Brograve Pumping Station, formwork and shutters are being positioned in preparation for the reinforced concrete pours that will create the new wet well*.
At Martham Pumping Station, steel support beams are being installed over the wet well, while the wet well wing walls have been cleaned and painted. Outfall headwalls and the weed screen cleaner** unit have been delivered to site.
At Potter Heigham Pumping Station, outfall headwalls, pumps and the weed screen cleaner unit have been delivered to site, supporting the next stages of work.
Meanwhile, at Repps Pumping Station we have started environmental mitigation ahead of service diversions and enabling works, which will commence imminently.

The Upper Thurne project is upgrading pumping infrastructure across the Broads, helping to manage water levels and reduce flood risk for local communities, properties and the surrounding landscape.
This end-of-October update highlights the continued progress being made across all three sites as investment in vital flood risk management infrastructure moves forward in this important part of Norfolk.

*A wet well is the chamber where water collects before being pumped away, helping the pumping station manage water levels across the surrounding area.
** A weed screen cleaner helps keep the pumping station operating effectively by removing vegetation and other debris caught on the weed screen before it can obstruct the flow of water or interfere with the pumping equipment. The debris (weeds and vegetation) which is removed and piled next to the inlet within the pumping station compound can be removed and composted. Together the weed screen and weed screen cleaner help maintain the movement of water through the station and support reliable operation of the asset and surrounding watercourses.
