Exeter Drain Improvement Project

Exeter Drain Improvement Project Progress August 2026

Projects South Holland IDB

Work on the Exeter Drain Improvement Project is continuing to make good progress, with more than 70 metres of the 300-metre Culvert 1 replacement now complete between Maple Grove and Cley Hall Drive.

The new culvert is being installed as the existing structure is removed, with temporary ground support used to keep the excavation stable and the site safe as work progresses.

At Mulberry Way, work on Culvert 3 has taken longer than planned after unexpected ground conditions meant the foundation design for the culvert extension needed to be reviewed.

Our design and construction teams are working through the options to ensure the extension is safe and provides a strong, long-term solution. We hope to restart work on this section in September.

Traffic management

Some traffic management measures will remain in place while the works continue.

Parking restrictions on Mulberry Way, Morus Close and Matmore Gate have been extended until November 2026 to allow safe access for large construction vehicles. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank residents for their patience.

A road closure between Clay Lake and Pecks Drove West is planned from 14 September until early October, with a signed diversion in place.

Other temporary measures, including short closures, contraflow systems or restricted access, may be introduced as work moves between locations. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, although short delays may occur.

Next phase

From September, work will move to the open channel, where around 145 metres of existing concrete channel will be replaced with new concrete-encased sheet piling.

This will strengthen the channel and improve its resilience for the future.
