Upper Thurne Integrated Drainage Improvement Project, Horsey Pumping Station Replacement, St Benets Pumping Station Replacement, Potter Heigham Pumping Station Replacement, Martham Pumping Station Replacement, Brograve Pumping Station Replacement

Work continues to progress across the Upper Thurne Project, with important milestones reached in June 2026.
A significant step forward has been achieved with the commissioning of the new pumps at the St Benet’s and Horsey Pumping Stations. These are the first two pumping stations to be delivered as part of the wider Upper Thurne Project.
Commissioning marks a key stage in bringing the new infrastructure into operational readiness. Once fully operational (early July), these pumping stations will play an important role in managing water levels across the catchment, helping to reduce flood risk and improve resilience to future climate impacts.

In parallel, good progress is being made on Package Two of the project. Mobilisation works have now been successfully completed at all three sites (Brograve, Martham and Potter Heigham Pumping Station sites), allowing construction activity to move forward.
Piling works for the new pumping station foundations are now underway at all three sites. These foundations will provide the structural base for the new infrastructure, forming a critical part of the long-term flood risk management system for the Upper Thurne catchment.
Looking ahead, construction of the pumping stations civils will continue across all sites, throughout the summer.
